Tens of Millions of Soccer Moms

Article about The Beckham Experiment in the WSJ. But this was interesting:

Alas, tens of millions of U.S. soccer moms have left quite a carbon footprint shuttling their kids to games and yet haven't produced a single first-class, world-wide soccer superstar. Mr. Donovan has the talent to be that player but has not played well during his stints in Europe. That has brought him back to America -- and to the clash of wills with Mr. Beckham.

When is the United States going to produce a true soccer star - and not a keeper? Or was Giuseppe Rossi the first, and we just missed out on persuading him to play for the U.S.?
